I create art as a way to contemplate change and its never-ending cycles.
The process of creating art provides me quiet inspiration as we humans struggle to live with disruptive change while maintaining
a sense of hope.
I am drawn to nature to find beauty in the continual dance of the elements. Therein, I appreciate
the continual endings, the in-between places and the new beginnings. Living at the edge of the Pacific Ocean allows me to
experience the margins of human existence, the planet's transition zones and the sacred places in nature where change is visible
and continual.
I feel a deep sense of awe as I witness the "ordinary moments" in nature: the first ray
of sunlight filtering through the morning fog, the osprey returning each February from South America, the subtle shades of
peach and violet at sunset. I draw upon these feelings and images to create layer upon layer upon layer over weeks and months
to create abstract and figurative works of art.
I am certain the arts help us cultivate understanding and learning as
our human journey unfolds within and across this mysterious, wonderful universe. I strive to create art that calms one's mind,
opens the imagination and fosters contemplation that incites movement toward new possibilities.
